Last month Arsenal was rumoured to be interested in signing French world cup hero Benjamin Pavard, but they appeared to have missed out on the opportunity to sign the Stuttgart defender following reports that he had signed an agreement with German giants Bayern Munich.
It turns out that those reports were false as confirmed by Pavard himself.
He told L’Equipe: “I did not sign anything at all (with Bayern).
“You are the journalists who say that I signed (for Bayern).
“I’m in Stuttgart, I’m fine there. My career plan was to stay one more season in Germany. I am in a very big German club, with fantastic fans.
“This club is a family, that’s what I need and that’s what I like about this club. I’m very good there.
“It’s true that the World Cup came faster than expected, nobody expected it, not even me at the very beginning.”
So there you have it, he has not signed for Bayern and he will be staying with Stuttgart for one more season.
That means that the Gunners are still very much in the hunt to sign the player next summer.
Arsenal and Bayern are not the only clubs interested in signing the world cup winner, Liverpool is also reported to be interested in signing him.
The German champions may well be the favourites at this time to land Pavard but that does not mean that Arsenal is out of the running, they are firmly in contention and if they qualify for next seasons Champions League they have as much chance as Bayern and Liverpool in signing the 22-year-old.
