Arsenal stepped one foot closer to winning a trophy this season as they beat Sheffield United in the FA Cup quarterfinals to book a place in the semifinal of the competition.
Mikel Arteta named a much-changed team, but the Gunners managed to survive a second-half onslaught to beat Chris Wilder’s side 2-1 at Bramall Lane.
The Gunners are now one of four teams remaining in the competition after the other quarterfinal games were played.
The draw for the semifinal has been made and Arsenal will be taking on Manchester City.
The Citizens are the competition’s defending champions and they have enjoyed a superior head to head against Arsenal in recent games.
The semi-final will take place in an empty Wembley Stadium on the 18th of July, the winner will face the winner of the other semi-final between Manchester United and Chelsea on August 1.
Arsenal is the most successful team in the FA Cup and the Gunners will look to build on their reputation in this competition to earn another final.
The Gunners were beaten 3-0 by Pep Guardiola’s side on the restart of the Premier League season, but that game was tipped in City’s favour because of a poor showing by David Luiz.
The bookies obviously do not rate Arsenal’s chances making them the outsiders at a crazy 12/1 and that is worth taking.
The FA Cup is well known for upsets and Arsenal are capable of beating City, they are not unbeatable anymore and on a neutral ground anything can happen.
Arsenal have every right to feel confident, momentum is growing after two consecutive wins and City have just lost to Chelsea handing the title to Liverpool.
Is it a big ask? Of course it is, however, it is not impossible and I for one will take a little of that 12/1 on offer.
