Arsenal need some more attacking options, that’s a given. They currently sit in 4th place with 17 points, nine points behind bitter rivals Chelsea. With Danny Welbeck not performing as well as expected, it has come to the attention of Arsene Wenger that he needs to shoe in some more talent. It’s no surprise that recent reports have come in that Arsenal are looking to sign the extremely talented Julian Draxler from Schalke.
Julian Draxler would fit in perfectly with Arsenal; he’s quick, he’s versatile with both feet, and he’s young at only 21-years-old. The only issue might be is that the Gooners are full to the brim with attacking midfielders with the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott – who recently returned in the win over Burnley. Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, Santi Cazorla and Serge Gnabry are also names that spring to mind.
by jikatu Could Draxler end up playing for club and country with international team mate Ozil?
Then comes along the interest from other clubs driving up his price and Wenger has never been one to overpay for players until recently, and this isn’t a trend he’s willing to continue. With reports that Van Gaal wants to bring the young German to Old Trafford it could ensure a bidding war that could get extremely out of hand.
That’s right, recent reports have also suggested that Louis Van Gaal is also interested in signing the German international. He currently has a team of superstar forwards, but a defence that resembles a shoddy garden fence. Most teams have been able to blow it over without much effort this season and it could be that the United boss could do with focusing on his own problems rather than boycotting Wenger’s efforts to bring some young fresh talent to the Premier League.
The question is, where exactly will Draxler end up? While that may be far from a certainty at this moment in time, what is guaranteed that is Blue Sq will have all the latest news on this transfer and more, as we move ever closer to the mid-season transfer window in January.
We’d all like to see Draxler playing for Arsenal, that’s for sure. But for now, let’s see if they can fend off United first, if they can.
