Arsenal legend Sol Campbell is insistent that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang must have a great season for the Gunners if we are to finish in the top-four.
Aubameyang has scored just the once in the Premier League this season, against Cardiff City last weekend, but has shown enough for many to believe that he is on the verge of recreating the prolific goalscoring feats he enjoyed at his previous club Borussia Dortmund.
The Gabon international is critical to Arsenal’s success according to Campbell who said,
“Aubameyang, I know he’s from last season,”
“But I think from the start of this season, I think it would be good for him to get off running and get on to his scoring abilities.
“I think his goals will be really vital for Arsenal nudging up and going beyond sixth and hopefully getting that fourth spot.
“He has to keep on, and Lacazette as well, but I think that he needs to really have a good season.”
It is important that the strikers have a good season, Campbell is right about that, but the truth is that it is the defence and not the forward line that is the big worry. If you provide Aubameyang and Lacazette with a decent service they will convert but it really will be meaningless if the defence cannot stop leaking goals all over the place and as a defender Campbell would be better placed giving his expert opinion on what the Arsenal defence needs to do to stop shipping goals and undermining the efforts of Aubameyang and Lacazette.
