Real Madrid

Arsenal is looking at landing another exciting Brazilian teenager but face a fierce battle with Real Madrid.

Arsenal has already pulled off one major coup signing teenage sensation Gabriel Martinelli and they are looking to repeat the trick with Flamengo midfielder Reinier Jesus claims the Sun.

This is not the first time that Arsenal has been linked with a move for the youngster. Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo previously claimed the club have already been in touch with the teenager’s father.

One of the reasons that Jesus is being linked with a move to Europe is because of comments recently made by Flamengo manager, Jorge Jesus.

“I launched three players (at Flamengo), one at 17, one at 18 and one at 19. The 17-year-old will be sold to one of Europe’s biggest teams now for several million euros.” Jorge told the Portuguese media outlet, Record.

Jesus is the only 17-year-old currently in the Flamengo first team and so the assumption is that the Flamengo manager is referring to him specifically.

Apparently, Jesus has a huge release clause of £60 Million. But Flamengo must know they will get nowhere near that and a fee of £35 Million is being touted.

Arsenal will not be rolled over by Real Madrid in the battle to sign the young man. The Spanish giants no longer have deep pockets and need to offload some of their own high salary players.

Additionally, Arsenal football director Edu has extensive contacts in Brazil following his stint with the Brazilian national team. His influence, as it was with Martinelli, could be crucial.

This is definitely one to keep an eye on.
