Arsenal boss Unai Emery is reported to be targetting Atletico Madrid defender Filipe Luis as a replacement for Nacho Monreal.
It is a strange rumour considering that Luis is 33 years of age and can hardly be seen as a long-term replacement for Monreal.
Arsenal have not been shy in the transfer window and are set to continue to strengthen their squad further and are already looking ahead to the January transfer window with Luis apparently on the winter shopping list.
One of the reasons that Luis is being linked with Arsenal may well be the reported rift between the player and his manager at Atletico Diego Simeone, a case of putting two and two together and coming up with a tasty piece of gossip.
Though the recent comments coming from Simeone do seem to contradict the reports of a fallout.
“All I can say about Filipe Luis is that the player knows how much we love him and how important he is for us,” Simeone said.
“I always want the best for the players who have given us so much and obviously I don’t want Filipe to leave.”
A strange one then, an aged player that may or may not have fallen out with his manager that remains in demand at his club but is apparently set to be released in January.
It is an international break and the chances are that this is just a silly bit of gossip to fill the gaps in the news cycle.
In better words, this is very unlikely to happen.
