Arsenal transfer news – Arsenal reported being in talks with Bayern Munich to sign Jerome Boateng.
Following the season-ending injury to Calum Chambers Arsenal have moved very fast to secure a replacement, according to the latest Arsenal transfer news from Sky Sports Germany.
Boateng is not the Gunners first choice. That would be Red Bull Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano, however, it is very unlikely that he can be signed before the summer.
A fee of £12.75 million for Boateng has been mentioned in the report. That does seem a little steep for a player aged 31-year-old and nowhere near the defender he once was.
Apparently, talks have begun with the German Champions who the report claims are willing sellers.
For his part, Arteta has made it clear that if the right opportunity comes along he will get it done.
‘My obligation is to give my opinion on the things we can improve,’ Arteta said after Arsenal’s win over Manchester United on Wednesday evening.
‘Obviously we have a bad injury with Calum a few days ago that will change our plans at the back.
‘The reality is we will not be able to do much. I’m more concerned about getting players back from injury and try to improve the players I have here, get everybody on board and understanding what we’re trying to do.
‘And if something extra comes up and we think it is the right opportunity to improve what we have, then let’s do it.’
As with all transfer rumours, one can never be certain of their accuracy but Sky tend to be fairly reliable. I cannot imagine they have just made this up. It would not surprise me one little bit to see Boateng in an Arsenal shirt this month.
