According to the latest media reports the Arsenal board have informed new boss Unai Emery that the wage bill must be slashed.

It now turns out that Arsenal was focussed on selling players in the final week of the transfer window and that there was never any chance of a new signing.

Arsenal splashed out £70million on five new players in the summer transfer window but also offloaded some high earners in Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla and Lucas Perez but that is still not enough and more players must now be sold.

The players set to be for the chop are Danny Welbeck and Mohamed Elneny.

Elneny is set to sign with Marseille before the end of the month but the chances are that Welbeck will remain on the books until the winter at least.

The signs are not good going forward if the club is determined to cut wages, what chance is there of a huge signing in January if the focus is now on cutting the wage bill?
