Man City v Arsenal

Man City v Arsenal may look a one-sided affair on paper but there is not that much difference between the teams individually. Arguments can be made for almost every single position on the pitch, as an example, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is as good as any City attacker.

The difference has been mentality, belief, tactics and strategy and a lot of that comes down to the respective management at each club.

Obviously, Bernd Leno will be the Arsenal keeper, he is top quality and will play a pivotal role in this game.

The defence is always tricky for Arsenal, there is no denying that and there is also no denying that it has improved significantly since Mikel Arteta took over.

It should also be noted that the City defence has hardly be at it’s best this season either.

An Arsenal backline of Kieran Tierney, Shkodran Mustafi, David Luiz and Hector Bellerin is not actually that bad.

It is easy to laugh at the inclusion of Mustafi, however, his form has improved massively under Arteta and is arguably our most in-form defender right now, Luiz, on his day can be top class and his experience will be invaluable. Tierney has shown already that he can make an impact and Bellerin, while still not back to his best, is still a quality defender.

Midfield is an area where the players do need to stand up and be counted, they have to play the dual role of creators and helping the defence and a threesome of Granit Xhaka, Mesut Ozil and Dani Ceballos can do that. Xhaka is more than capable of helping out in defence, as is Ceballos while Ozil and Ceballos can be the creators we desperately need them to be.

The frontline more or less picks itself with Aubameyang, Nicolas Pepe and Alexandre Lacazette.

Then there is the substitutions, Bukayo Saka, Eddie Nketiah, Reiss Nelson, Joe Willock, Matteo Guendouzi, Sokratis, Pablo Mari etc. all have the ability to play a significant role, it is not like we will have a bench full of nobodies. It is obviously not as strong as City’s but neither is it a weak one.

Yes, City has the better squad but the line up I have listed above has the capability of causing any team great difficulty. All they need to do is have that mental strength, total belief in their abilities, the right tactics and strategy and with Arteta already showing his quality I am of the opinion that a few people could be in for a shock Wednesday evening.

Let me know in the comments below the line up I have listed is good enough to be competitive against City.

Arsenal must not play for the draw against Manchester City
