Arsenal legend Cesc Fabregas has revealed that Mikel Arteta has a harder job in terms of turning Arsenal back into a top side than Frank Lampard has had at Chelsea.
The Spaniard played for both English teams after being poached from the Barcelona academy by Arsenal at a very young age.
He would develop his career at the Emirates before returning to Barcelona later in his career.
He returned from Spain and joined the Blues after Arsenal turned down the chance to re-sign him permanently.
He now plays for Monaco and he has been one of the more outspoken former Arsenal players in recent months.
He was speaking about his two former teams who are both under new young managers at the moment and both looking to get back among the best teams in England.
He claimed that Mikel Arteta has done a good job at Arsenal and he expects the team to get better under the Spaniard, but he added that the job at Arsenal is much tougher than that at Stamford Bridge.
‘Chelsea took a gamble with Frank because it was only his second year as a main coach and he’s done very well,’ said the Monaco midfielder in an interview with the Guardian
‘With Mikel, it’s a little bit of the same. He’s been with Pep [Guardiola] for three years, and I’m sure he’s like a master for any young coach that wants to start being a manager.
‘I think he’s done well [so far] and I’m sure he’s brought back some values to the club that was needed.
‘Obviously it’s a much harder job than Chelsea in terms of rebuilding the squad, and they are very young, and they had problems because [Arteta] started much further down the line than Chelsea, but I’m positive that they will pick up very soon and that next season could be the one for them.’
