William Saliba was signed by Arsenal in the summer of 2019 to much fanfare as he was regarded as one of the best young defenders in France at the time.
The 19 year old stayed with Saint Etienne on loan for the rest of the season before he made a return to the Emirates this season.
He helped the French side to reach the final of the French Cup, although injury ravaged his season and the coronavirus pandemic forced the French top flight to be stopped halfway, he was still expected to become a star in this Arsenal team.
There was a lot of hype surrounding his signing and he was expected to hit the ground running almost immediately when he joined the club.
He has, however, failed to make any appearances as he hasn’t convinced Mikel Arteta yet.
From the start of the campaign, the Spanish manager didn’t see enough to make him a part of his team.
He suggested that the defender has to go out a loan and play more regularly before he can be ready to play for Arsenal.
Saliba was close to sealing a loan return to Saint Etienne in the last transfer window before the deal fell through.
A new report from Canal + via Foot-sur7 claims that Saint Etienne is looking to land him in the next transfer window, and the defender is so keen to make the move that he will take a pay cut.
It claims that he is ready to shed 100,000 euros per month from his wages to make the move happen.
