Former Gunner Charlie Nicholas has made a good living as a Sky Sports pundit since hanging up his boots and one of the reasons for that is that he is very forthright in his views.
Nicholas penned an article for SkySports about the game against Man City and also gave his opinion on which players he believes will be leaving the Emirates.
The former Celtic and Arsenal hit man said this specifically about potential departures.
“The reality stares you straight in the face – Arsenal are ninth with 40 points. I look at the table and Arsenal have 13 draws in 28 games, yet they have only lost six all season”.
“I would like to be more enthusiastic, but I can’t. You can work with Sokratis Papastathopoulos, David Luiz, and Shkodran Mustafi and get them to improve, but they will not improve by much. Luiz will move on next season and Arteta will know that Sokratis and Mustafi are all seemingly pitching to be sold”
It has to be said that Nicholas does have a point, it is unlikely that Sokratis, Luiz and Mustafi will improve massively, yes, they may become more stable in their defending but they really are at their level now and that is simply not good enough for Arsenal.
Arteta will need to raise funds for transfers and Arsenal do have quite a few defenders that can be classed as surplus to requirements and let’s be honest, if those three do depart, would they really be missed? I don’t think so.
