Bitter rivals Tottenham linked with yet another attempt to hijack Arsenal transfer.

Arsenal has previously been linked with a move for Atletico Madrid star Thomas Lemar and according to the Express, have now been joined by Tottenham in weighing up a move.

The French midfielder signed for the Spanish giants back in 2017. However, he has not quite made the impact that his £63 Million transfer fee would warrant.

The 24-year-old is definitely a top talent but according to the Express, Atletico is prepared to do business as long as they can recoup a significant amount of what they paid out.

The problem for Arsenal and Tottenham is not so much the fee but more that other areas are a priority. But at the same time, they would not want to miss out on a player of Lemar’s capabilities if he becomes available at a reasonable price.

According to the same report, Atletico could end up allowing Lemar to leave for as little as £30 Million. The reason is simple, they need to sell in order to buy. Apparently they want to sign Edison Cavani and they need to raise the necessary funds.

A loan move is said to be unlikely simply because Atletico want money now. They do not want to receive money in the future at the end of any loan deal.

Lemar would certainly be an upgrade on most of Arsenal’s midfielders. However, Mikel Arteta, while an admirer of the player, will not get involved in an auction. He is more focussed on strengthening the defence.

This could happen but it would be a bit of a surprise.
