Even though Arsene Wenger said last week that he was not “especially interested” in signing Mirko Vucinic, it now appears that the Juventus star could be heading to the Gunners after all.

It had been thought that the 30-year-old Montenegro international was going to sign for Inter Milan in a swap deal with Colombian midfielder, Fredy Guarin, but that agreement is believed to be on the brink of collapse.

It is thought that both players agreed personal terms, with Vucinic even passing a medical before Inter demanded more money to complete the deal, leading Juve to pull out.

According to the latest live football commentary, Arsenal are interested in discussing a loan bid for Vucinic, who has also been linked with Tottenham. Tim Sherwood is keen to bolster his strike options as Jermain Defoe has agreed to join MLS side FC Toronto at the end of next month.

Vucinic has been with the Turin-based side since the summer of 2011, having earlier played for Lecce and Roma. He rose to prominence in the 2004-05 season when he scored 19 goals in just 28 Serie A matches for Lecce.

Meanwhile, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has revealed that the players are determined to prove their doubters wrong by winning the Premier League title.

Most football betting pundits suggest the Gunners will fall away in the final four months of the season, leaving Chelsea and Manchester City to battle it out for the title, but Oxlade-Chamberlain insists: “When people are doubting you or saying you’re not capable of doing something, it gives you that motivation to prove them wrong.

“At the same time, when you aren’t favourites you can go about your work quietly – and the most important thing is that we know what we need to do to finish where we want to finish. That’s the only thing that matters.”
